The World Needs a Stable Influence
We Need Jesus
Luke 2:1-7
Why do I need Jesus?
(1) Because this World is Beyond me
- v1, “the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken…”
- John 3:31, “He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else.”
(2) Because I have a History
- v4, “...because Joseph was a descendant of King David…”
- Isaiah 1:18,“Come now, … says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
- John 15:15, “I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
- Isaiah 62:2, “And you will be given a new name by the LORD ’s own mouth.”
(3) Because I am a Work in Progress
- v4b, “…he had to go to Bethlehem … He traveled there from the village of Nazareth…”
- 1 Peter 1:18 (MSG), “Your life is a journey …”
- Psalm 18:36, “You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.”
(4) Because I only have so much time
- v6, “…the time came …”
- Galatians 4:4-7, “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.”
- 2 Corinthians 6:2, “For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.”
Final Thought: Today, is the best day to come to Jesus.
Series Information

Throughout this study we will visit the fields around Bethlehem as God worked toward the coming of our Savior and His Son. The night Jesus was born, we are told shepherds were in those fields and they were visited by angels. But God’s footprints in and around Bethlehem had been evident for centuries … and if we look closely, in those stories we see much about the one to come.
