Giving
The word tithe literally means “a tenth.” In Scripture, a tithe refers to giving the first 10% of our income back to God. It is an act of worship, obedience, and trust, recognizing that everything we have comes from Him in the first place. Tithing is not meant to be a one-time act but a regular rhythm of generosity woven into our lives. Just as we find rhythm in work and rest, or in prayer and worship, giving regularly establishes a rhythm that:
Puts God first in our finances.
Builds trust that He will provide for our needs.
Supports the mission of the church to reach people with the gospel.
Shapes our hearts to be more like Christ, who gave everything for us.
When we tithe consistently, we enter into the rhythm of God’s design: we give, He provides, and His kingdom grows.
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
— Malachi 3:10
Below you will find 5 pockets of giving opportunities. The essential pocket would be fueling the mission together, but take time and consider what God may be nudging you towards concerning the other pockets.
The Five Pockets of Giving at New Work
Fueling the Mission Together - the beginning of faithfulness in giving. God calls us to bring the tithe to the church and gifts into the budget support all the work of the church.
Building - there are always capital projects at hand. The Outpouring is our current project to add space for our student and kids ministries.
Directed - Occasionally there are special projects/opportunities leadership identify as strategic.
Benevolence - Needs are constant. The church is the instrument God uses to meet the needs of people in and around our community.
Missions - We are all about the Go! Strategic partnerships are part of missional giving. Each year these partnerships are part of the year-end giving opportunity.

Why Give to God?
God doesn't need our money; He already owns it all. However, when we willingly set aside the first part of our income for the local church and give liberal offerings, our hearts will be turned toward Him. (Matthew 6:21)
Can I Tithe Online?
Absolutely! Even online, tithing is an act of obedience and worship from your heart. Give your tithe (the first 10% of your income/increase) to God and see if He does not open the floodgates of heaven to bless you. (Malachi 3:10)
What about Offerings?
All free-will offerings can be designated to the pockets described above. If you have an offering above and beyond your normal tithe, the most impactful place would be the budget pocket. If you would like to further discuss your offering, please contact our Financial office.
