Not My King
Right Desire, Wrong Answer
1 Samuel 8
"How should the church engage in our culture? Many talk about becoming more missional, others about taking our culture back, but it has been my experience that the typical Christian, rather than feeling fired up or threatened by the ideological campaigns simply feels sad, confused and overwhelmed." - Jon Tyson, Church of the City New York
Jon Tyson Sermon: The Controversial Jesus: Jesus and Politics
Series Theme:
All human leadership leaves us wanting and longing for MORE.
It is by design that all human leadership leaves us wanting and longing for MORE.
What we are really longing for is something that only God can give.
So, what is the point of it all?
1. Don't miss the point (1 Samuel 8:5b)
2. Face the problem (1 Samuel 8:6, 20; Exodus 19:5-6; 1 Peter 2:9)
The Christian in Politics...and that is all of us...
1. Recognize the privilege.
2. Be gracious in your conversation. (see 2 Timothy 2:23-24)
3. Commit yourself to prayerful intercession. (Remember Proverbs 21:1)
4. Devote your heart to this declaration: Jesus is Lord.
