The End in Mind
Our Hope in Death, the Promise of Heaven
Revelation 21:1-8
What do you call it when we plan for every contingency in life, but completely ignore the one certainty? Foolishness. What is the one absolute certainty that is true for every man, woman, and child? It is the certainty of death.
Now in a way, we don't want to talk about death. We would like to think that we will be the one exception to the overwhelming statistic that has held true from the beginning: for every one that has lived, so far - one of of every one - also dies. Death is the great equalizer.
How do I live THIS day in light of THAT day?
The End in Mind
Our Hope in Death, the Promise of Heaven
Revelation 21:1-8
Heaven is our hope:
1. Because it's real, and it's being prepared.
John 14:2-3, "There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am."
2. Because it's home, true home.
Hebrews 13:14, "For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come."
3. But it's one of two options.
The promise of Heaven should fill us with
heartfelt hope,
and it should also fill us with
heartfelt urgency
for the lost.
John 3:16, "For this is how God love the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."
