Marriage for Dummies: Mutual Love & Respect
Marriage for Dummies: Respect
Ephesians 5:21-24
Marriage in three words:
- Mutuality
- Love
- Respect
Digging into the Text:
“For wives, this means submit to your husbands…”
Submit = Responsible with him
- When submission is given willingly, voluntarily—it becomes an act of selflessness.
- But when another demands submission—it becomes and act of selfishness.
“…and the wife must respect her husband.”
Respect = Phobeo—fear, be in awe, revere, highly value
CRAZY CYCLE:
- A wife doesn’t feel loved, so she refuses to show respect
- A husband doesn’t feel respected so he refuses to show love
- And on and on it goes
Living out the Text:
- Take the Leap
- Say it…out loud
- Read the Sign
The disrespect barometer: Anger
- Seize the Power
Final thought: Wives, it is possible that never are you more like Christ than when you respect your husband out of reverence to Christ.
