I've Got This

Luke 18:9-14

One problem we often have is that we listen to the limiting voice of the enemy, but the opposite is just as true! The adversary loves to convince us that we are "all that and a bag of chips." I got this! I'm self-sufficient! I'm capable! I'm unstoppable! The self-help culture in our world tells us - I just need self-actualization to thrive. The Bible is resplendent with examples of proud people, incredibly gifted and capable people, who give in to the poisonous whispers of the evil one and fall on their face. Samson, King Saul, Solomon (the wisest of the wise), the list goes on and on.  Humility is the answer.  Being anchored (abiding) in Jesus enables us!

I've Got This

Luke 18:9-14

Three truths that combat the lie, "I've got this":

First Truth: It's not about me.

Isaiah 64:6, "We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags..."

John 14:15, "If you love me, obey my commandments."

Second Truth: It's not about them.

Question: Am I only bothered by the sins of others, or am I broken about my own?

Third Truth: It's all about Him.

Luke 18:13-14, "But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, 'O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.' I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

The pursuit of mercy and the posture of humility.
