Pardon the Interruption
I Was Fine Right Where I Was
Luke 2:1-20
Sometimes the last thing we want is an interruption. Everything is going along just like we want it to. I imagine that 's the way it was with the shepherds. They were content. They were comfortable. I don't picture the shepherds as an exceedingly ambitious lot. Their job was on the bottom rung of economic advancement. There must have been "easy as you go" vibe to these guys. This night was just same ol', same ol'. They were used to day in and day out. Every night was the same...oh, sure - maybe the occasional moment of madness when a bear or lion tried to swipe a lamb. And this night was nothing special, until SUDDENLY IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE! There is comfort in routine. We like to know what is coming. Christmas can be tough because we lose our routine and rhythm, but this interruption was God's way of saying, "There is more to your story!" God's story intersected their story, and God has a purpose when He interrupts your story. He is inviting you to something more. So what's the lesson here? Get your eyes up, get your worship on, step into the call, find Jesus, AND never be the same again!
Pardon the Interruption
I Was Fine Right Where I Was
Luke 2:1-20
What To Do When God Interrupts You:
1. Get your EYES UP!
v9, "Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terrified..."
Isaiah 55:8-9, "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the LORD, "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."
2. Get your WORSHIP ON!
v11, "The Savior - yes, the Messiah, the Lord - has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!"
Job 13:15 (NIV), "Though he slay me, yet I will hopE in him..."
3. Step into your CALL
v12, "And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger."
Paxton quote: "If I value my COMFORT over OBEDIENCE, I miss the will of God."
To have God's BEST, give up the REST.
4. Find JESUS
v15, "When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, "Let's go..."
Romans 10:9-10, "If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved."
5. Never be THE SAME
Luke 2:15-18
Final Thought: I must come to Jesus NOW if I hope to come to Jesus in ETERNITY.
