Love Truth: Truth Loves

James 5:19-20

“You will watch a generations of Christians – OF CHRISTIANS – set the Bible aside in an attempt to become more like Jesus. And stunningly it will sound completely plausible. This will be, perhaps, the cleverest of all the devil’s schemes in your generation. Sacrifice TRUTH for LOVE’s sake. And you will rise or fall based upon whether you will sacrifice one for the other. Will you have the courage to live in the tension of both TRUTH & LOVE?”  - Beth Moore, Passion 2017

  • Love without truth is always Ludicrous.
  • Truth without Love is always Disastrous.

The TRUTH we need

v19. “My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back”

  • There is TRUTH.

John 17:17, “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” God’s word is truth. It is the absolute truth. It is God’s unchanging truth.

  • You can WANDER.

Hebrews 2:1, “So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.”

Galatians 6:1, “Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.”

  • You can COME BACK.

Luke 22:32, “But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

 The LOVE we need

  • Love that GOES AFTER the Wanderer.
Matthew 18:15, “If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.”
  • Love WORKS FOR forgiveness.
v20, “you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.”

1 Peter 4:8, “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.”

Final Thought: Live in the tension of both LOVE and TRUTH. And that begins when you LOVE TRUTH, just like Jesus.
