“What is with Evil and Suffering?”

Genesis 3:17-18  and Romans 8:22

How can an all-powerful, all-loving God allow the horrific evil in our world?

“You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times...evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse...” (2 Timothy 3:1,13)

What is Broken?

(see Genesis 3:17-18 and Romans 8:22)

1 John 5:19, “We know that we are children of God and that the    world around us is under the control of the evil one.”

Mark 7:21-22, “For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.”

Genesis 6:5 (NIV), “The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.”

Psalm 73:7 (NIV), “From their callous hearts comes iniquity; their evil imaginations have no limits.”

Where’s the Fix?

God has worked to Restrain evil.

#1 –God sent Jesus (see John 3:16-17)
#2 –God gave the Holy Spirit (see John 16:8)
#3 –God gave His Word (see Romans 2:15)
#4 –God empowered His church (see Matthew 5:13-16, Titus 3:14) #5 –God set up ruling authorities (see Romans 13:1-5)

What about me?

(see 1 Thessalonians 5:22, Romans 12:21)

Final Thought: Like it or not, you are in a battle, (the struggle of good vs evil)—and you are called to conquer evil by doing good. Give your life to it.

Series Information

Hot Topics has been one of the most often requested and talked about series. We return to the challenging topics after laying a foundation of the importance of spiritual disciplines. It is important when dealing with the difficult subjects of life that we do so out of a growing spirituality that is rooted in the scriptures, the community of the church and an on-going relationship with the Father.
