After David sinned (this man who is described as having a heart after God); God calls upon David to build an altar to the Lord. This altar is to be the place where sin is put aside. David declares that he will not give to the Lord, that which cost him nothing. In a very real way - that is also what God does for us. He makes a way for our sin to be removed - and it cost him far too great a price. It all points to Jesus.

2 Samuel 24:15-25

2 Samuel 24:10, "But after he had taken the census, David's conscience began to bother him. And he said to the Lord, 'I have sinned greatly by taking this census. Please forgive my guilt, Lord, for doing this foolish thing.'"

James 1:14-15, "Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death."

What will you do with your sin?

John 16:8, Holy Spirit "...will convict the world of its sin..."

Sin always costs you more than you ever wanted to pay.

When it comes to my sin, I must OWN MY SIN.

The Threshing Floor

v. 18, "That day Gad came to David and said to him, 'Go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.'"

The Threshing Floor is the place where Divine WRATH and MERCY collide!

When it comes to my sin, I must ATONE for my sin.

ATONE = AT ONE

The Angel with a Sword

1 Chronicles 21:16a, "David looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth with his sword drawn, reaching out over Jerusalem."
