Matthew 25:31-46

Heaven: Setting our Hearts on Things Above

“A Real Place that Makes a Real Difference”

Matthew 25:31-46 also, Romans 2:6-8

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” - Colossians 3:1-2

“I have come down from heaven.” - John 6:38

What can we know?

Heaven is … For Real People

         v32, “all the nations”.

            See Romans 2:6-9

Hebrews 9:27, “And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes  judgment,”

                  Key question: Who are we?

Genesis 2:7, “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

                  We are Dust and Breath.

We are the Same but Different.

Heaven is … A Real Place

v34,“…inherit the Kingdom prepared for you…”

Key Question: Where are we? (See John 14:1-3)

Three Places: Eden, Earth, New Earth(See Revelation 21)

We live in the “in-between”.

Heaven is … A Real Choice

            v35-36 “…me…me…me…me…me…me.”

Who is “the ‘me’ in the middle of it all?”

  • v31, “Son of man…”
  • v34, “King…”
  • v37, “Lord…”

                  Key Question: Who is Jesus?

Final Thought: If there is no Jesus in your life, there will be no heaven; But if you know Jesus in this life, you will know Jesus in heaven.

Series Information

The biblical reality of Heaven is fascinating and often fantasized. Yet the desire for Heaven reflects one of the deepest longings of the human heart. We long for a home beyond this life. Heaven is the home God created for His children.  Heaven is a real place and so much more than a warm, fuzzy, concept of life after death. But Heaven is not the place everyone will spend eternity.  The biblically reality of Heaven cannot be grasped without a clear understanding of the biblical reality of Hell.  God calls us home in Christ.  We can step into faith and the reality of Heaven now and for the future, or we can step away from God and into the reality of Hell.
